You don%26#039;t need a host for anything, save maybe ASP or ColdFusion stuff, if you%26#039;re only using it for learning. Websites in HTML, JavaScript and CSS can be viewed merely by saving them with Dreamweaver on your hard disk, and opening those files in a browser such as Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, etc. (although if you%26#039;re looking to get into web design I recommend getting into the practice of viewing your websites in all three to make sure it appears the same, or at least good, in all kinds of browsers.)

If you%26#039;re looking to do PHP and MySQL, you can also do this on your computer, but you%26#039;ll need to set up PHP, MySQL and Apache. For doing this, I recommend that you not actually go to the trouble of installing these three programs individually, but instead using a program like WAMP5 to install them automatically (see resources below). Once you have this installed, all you have to do is save your PHP files in the www folder you specified in the setup, and then load them in your browser at the address http://localhost/your_file_name.php. Note that you can get this to display to the outside world, but that takes additional setup, and I%26#039;m not familiar with how to do that. It also takes a pricey static IP, available from your ISP on request - and usually an additional fee. Still, if you don%26#039;t need other people to see what you%26#039;re doing - you%26#039;re only using it for learning something like PHP or MySQL, this is the best option if you only need it for testing PHP/MySQL pages programmed in Dreamweaver and for learning to work with PHP and MySQL.

If you actually want a website that other people can view, and it%26#039;s not just for learning, I would recommend NOT going with a free service. Instead, I recommend getting your own domain name from godaddy.com (8 or so bucks a year?) and then getting a cheap website account from hasweb.com - their cheapest options are the average plan, which is $48 a year, and then the cheapest one that is offered on a monthly rate is the business plan, at $10/month (I use this one.) Even the average plan is more than enough for a person who has no previous experience with websites to get set up and uploading webpages to the web. HasWeb in particular offers way more bandwidth, storage space, e-mail, FTP, and MySQL accounts (unlimited for all of those last three) than similar hosts, and for a ridiculously cheap price. They also have excellent customer service. :-)

FTP is the key thing here, though - you need something with FTP. FTP (file transfer protocol) is what allows you to easily transfer files from your computer to the server. Most if not all hosts have FTP.

Again, if you%26#039;re only trying to learn how to use Dreamweaver or HTML/CSS/JavaScript/PHP/MySQL, you don%26#039;t need an online server. Dreamweaver pages, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript can all be viewed without any additional server, etc.

Other Replys:Like someone said before me, try make your own server, its not that hard as it seems, i have my own server too (web server, email server...) on a free sumdomain, i recomand to get a free subdomain from www.dyndns.org, its working fine, i dunno if noip gives wildcard, but dyndns does, you can have static or dinamic ip address.
